w_profil.JPG (319909 bytes)When acidic rain water goes into the joints of granite, chemical weathering starts. Rocks decay along the joints while the inner parts of blocks remain fresh. The inner parts become rounded core stones which are surrounded by weathered materials.

When weathered materials are washed away by agents of erosion or mass wasting, corestones are exposed. They pile up on slopes and are called tors.
