gully.JPG (133229 bytes)Gullies are commonly found in areas made up of granite.

Removal of vegetation cover by human or hill fires cause the topsoil expose to various agents of weathering and erosion. Mechanical weathering takes place under sunlight and enlarges joints of granite. Chemical weathering takes place after rainfall when acdic rain water concentrate at joints, joints are then enlarged into rills

As rills are widened by lateral erosion and mass wasting of weathered materials, gullies are formed.
